Sierra Leone and Liberia are true West African gems. Rich in natural resources, a stunning coastline and very open and friendly cultures.

Unfortunately Sierra Leone and Liberia are best known for blood diamonds, child soldiers and Ebola. Surfing Salone aims to rehabilitate the countries' reputations by supporting the people of Sierra Leone and Liberia in their activities.

The future

The Sierra Leonine and Liberian youth is courageous and determined to move forward. Young adults are taking initiative, starting businesses, find their way to further education and (financial) resources to support their communities. An entrepreneurial climate is rising and after the Ebola epidemic the GDP of both countries are rising again

Still a lot of things are below acceptable standards. Public healthcare, basic education and infrastructure are lacking and keeping over 60% of the population in poverty.

Culture

Sierra Leone's nick name is Sweet Salone. And that's correct. People share their lives on every corner of the street in every possible way. They talk and talk, they play music and dance, they cook great food and share it whenever they can.

Nature

Sierra Leone and Liberia are absolutely stunning. Both countries consists mostly green and lush hills with wide rivers running through thick jungle. They are famous for the variety of birds.

The Freetown Penisula beaches all have their own characteristics. Different type of sand, different colours, but all are gorgeous. Google River No 2 for example and see it yourself!
